I came across this handsome creature in the street yesterday. It’s an ‘Eastern Toe Biter’ or ‘Giant Water Bug’. From what I understand ‘Toe Biter’ is a very appropriate name as it apparently lurks in freshwater streams and ponds, grabbing onto it’s prey with it’s awful looking pincers. It then injects a powerful saliva that liquifies muscle tissue…it’s bite is considered one of the most painful of all insects.
Even more scary is the fact that it can also fly, which probably explains how it ended up on the street in front of me. It must have flown straight out of hell and landed there.

Where in Colombia did you see that?
BTW I think you find those in most/all countries of the world (possibly smaller in other countries).
My brother got bitten by one in London, UK when we were children.
It was also in Popayan. I think it was about 10cm long
I know this insect = it called “Tagame” in Japan and I found in Thailand, people put this one into soy source to make taste better.
)
(Though, don’t ask me how taste better it had made
